GETTING YOUR WINTER GRILLING FIX
Unless the weather is incredibly bad, we try to grill
and BBQ at least once a week.
Plus, when we make a large meal for entertaining our
friends and family, we use our grill as an outdoors
oven - bake some break, smoke your turkey, or treat
yourself to a delicious dessert.
We have compiled comments and tips on winter grilling & BBQ'ing from our readers below:
1. Owning a Gas Grill helps you survive during the Winter Season - much easier to grill using gas in the snowy season
2. Be careful during lightning storms -- you never know when a lighting bolt will invite itself to a BBQ
3. I've grilled our steaks while my wife holds an umbrella over our heads and our grill - you could say we're dedicated. Hey, maybe we should build a roof over our deck
4. Added benefit of grilling & BBQ'n during the cold season -- your ice cubes in your drink don't melt!!!
5. Our neighbors think we're crazy -- but they enjoy eating the results of a wintry BBQ
6. I grill year 'round, even if I have to shovel a path to my grill. It's the only way to cook a steak!!!
8. 70 % of our survey recipients state that they grill during the winter
9. 60 % of our survey recipients that grill during the winter state that they use a gas grill
10. When asked where they lived our North American recipients stated:
a. Northeastern U.S. 25%
b. Southeastern U.S. 11%
c. South U.S 5%
d. Midwest U.S. 29%
e. Northeast U.S. 7%
f. Southwest U.S. 4%
g. West U.S. 6%
h. Canada 11%
i. other 2%
11. Chill at the Grill - Have a drink, use adequate lighting, and protect your grill from the cold air and temperatures
12. No Peeking! Keep the lid on the grill as much as possible to maintain the proper heat and protect food from cold air. We try not to use too many recipes that call for frequent basting.
13. Use an accurate grill thermometer -- when you know the accurate & precise temperature of your grill, there is no guesswork in adjusting the fuel level or cooking time – and there’s no need to lift the lid to check on the food, losing valuable heat.
